I haven't uploaded anything in a long time. I've been frantically working on a series of ink drawings. In the mean time, here is a very quick drawing that I did for a friend's birthday in January.
That's me on the left and my friend, Laura, on the right. We met through the Genesis-music.com fan club online.
Because we Genesis fans like each other so much, we set up fan gatherings where we can get together in real time. Laura and I have found that we share a real sisterly bond - she's one of my dearest friends.
This drawing is a composite of a couple of photos taken in August 2008 in Charlotte, NC at a fan gathering that I call G3 (Gina's Genesis Gathering). I had to composite the photos because we were VERY drunk looking in most of them!
Laura lives in New Jersey, so I drove to the Philly area for a tribute band (The Musical Box) concert and to celebrate her birthday with her. I didn't have much by the way of cash, so this was my gift. She has it on the wall of her game room.
On the drawing, I wrote these words:
"And you know that these are the days of our lives....so remember"
- lyrics to the Genesis song, "Fading Lights".
Technically, I was not pleased with the drawing. The photos I worked from were grainy, especially the one of me. I was also pressed for time - not enough of the detail that I wanted. I worked on this up until the very last minute when we were getting ready to leave for the concert. I might have spent 8 hours on it.
I also tried a new paper that had a rougher texture than I would have liked. That made it difficult to get the more photo realistic appearance that I like.
Sentimentally - I love this drawing. I only wished that Laura and I lived closer to each other instead of 9 hours away.
